Home: Academy Heights Neighbourhood

Academy Heights is named for its proximity to Lakehead Univeristy. Its is on a south-facing slope down to the Intercity industrial lands, and has lots of row housing, and apartment buildings targeted at students. The area is also known for its many restaurants along Memorial Ave, catering not just to students but to those attending events at the Stadium and the Community Auditorium. The city bus terminal on Fort William Road helps make this a very convenient neighbourhood to live.

Thunder Bay Community Theatre is right in the neighbourhood Schools
The community is established and is well-schooled. There are several elementary schools with both school boards, and the public board high school is close-by. Catholic high school students are bussed north a few kilometres. There is a library just down Red River Road. The community is also adjacent to Lakehead University.

Shopping
The area is surrounded by good shopping possibilities: for malls head either north to County Fair Plaza, or south to Intercity Shopping Centre. For shops & boutiques, head down the hill to either Algoma-Bay or Downtown North.

Recreation The community has several large parks and green space. George Burke Park and the University lands offer larger natural areas as well as recreational trails, connecting to the south of town. The recreational facilities and parklands of the Canada Games Complex and the beautiful Thunder Bay Community Auditorium also include an indoor ice arena. The city's two major movie theatres are close by.
