Homes: West End Neighbourhood
This area is wrapped around the intersection of John, Algonquin, and Balmoral, and lies on the south-facing slope of the hill overlooking the rest of the city. The homes here are mostly dating back to the post-war 1950s, and is home to older families and young couples. 
SchoolsThe community is established and is well-schooled. There are several elementary schools with both school boards, and the public board high school is close-by. Catholic high school students are bussed north aa few kilometres. There is a library just down Red River Road. The community is also close by to Lakehead University. Shopping The area is surrounded by good shopping possibilities: for malls head either north to County Fair Plaza, or south to Intercity Shopping Centre. For shops & boutiques, head down the hill to either Algoma-Bay and Downtown North. Recreation The community is dotted with small parks and greenspace, often around schools. West End Park has a running track. The larger George Burke Park offers larger natural areas as well as recreational trails, connecting to the south of town. The Cineplex Odeon theatre is just down the hill on Cumberland. The recreational facilities of the Canada Games Complex are also close by, as is the beautiful Thunder Bay Community Auditorium.
