This municipality is named from an Indian legend. It lies on the shore of Pelican Lake on the
English River - Lac Seul waterway. This 3100 population community was founded in 1911 as a
division point for the main trans-continental line of the Canadian National Railway.
Today, the town is about 65 km north of the Trans-Canada Highway and the area's main activities include hunting, fishing, and golf.
The town offers fly-in services and has a museum. A reconstructed CNR locomotive is located in Centennial Park. 807.737.2991
